Podcasts are a favourite way to wind down for me. For the most part I listen to them for fun while working on something. But not Within the Wires.

There is no listening while doing something else, having it play in the background and paying only partial attention to what is going on. From the first words of the first episode, the podcast is all that is happening.

I love the surreal. I am fascinated by alternate universes. I adore strong women. I adore creepy, strong women even more. I am a fan of beautiful imagery. This podcast has all of this.

I look forward to listening every other week. Season two is almost done so there is lots to binge-listen. My guess is that you will.

Season one and season two are both similar (they take place in the same alternate universe, focus on two characters) and are very different. The tones are distinct (not only due to different women narrating) and as much as I loved season one, the change of pace and setting is keeping things fresh.

Both seasons had me feeling claustrophobic, but in separate ways. For season one it was the setting. For season two, it is Rima Te Wiata’s voice. It is arresting and authoritative in an intimidating way. You pay attention.
